Big Changes on the Horizon for Coopers Crossing!
By Jeniah Wilde
Coopers Crossing is a great neighborhood; in fact it has been voted the #1 community in Airdrie. People who live in the community, including myself, absolutely love it! Whats more, there are a few new additions to the neighborhood landscape scheduled for 2016 that are sure to make life even better.
One of the main reasons my husband and I decided to live in Coopers is because of the pathway system. There are over 300 acres of trails, parks and playgrounds. At the time, I was an avid runner, and loved the idea of stepping out my back door for a run. Well 2 kids later.... and I'm not and avid runner anymore, but our family uses the pathways almost everyday. With 2 kids and a dog we are constantly outside riding our bikes or scooters. In the winter we use the pathways to walk to the pond for a skate, or over to the hill for some sledding. It seems a lot of families in Coopers do, and I believe it truly ties the community together.
Until now, elementary students have had to go outside of the community for school. But soon, Coopers Crossing residents will have the convenience of walking their kids to our own Community School.
No more driving the kids back and forth or long bus rides. With the great network of pathways through the neighborhood it will be easy for everyone to access the school and walk the dog at the same time. It's hard to believe that the elementary school is scheduled to be complete this fall already. In fact, the K-4 school in Coopers Crossing is currently accepting advanced registration
from January 11th - 15th. The good news for Coopers Crossing families is that children in grades 1-3 will be automatically registered for the 2016 school year.
The principle, Todd Hennig officially starts March 1st. In his introductions letter he listed a few core values; Strong Relationships; Strong Literacy and Numeracy; Strong Connections with the Real World; Strong Character and Strong leadership.
The new School in Coopers Crossing is also pleased to announce that before & after School programs will be offered.
Next on the list Coopers Town Promenade
which will include stores such as; grocery, pharmacy, medical, financial and other personal service. This development will be located on the corner of 8th street and 40th ave. Again, park your vehicle because it will be easy to walk to the promenade using the pathway system and once you are there, conduct your shopping on foot! There will also be some common areas such as the Plaza, which includes a stage for entertaining. Here is a sneak peek of what the finished product
will look like!
